Our Materials and Finishes

The art of curating heirloom quality with confidence and character

After 10 years of evolving the Kase Custom experience, we've refined our approach to building reclaimed wood furniture to serve customers across all categories.

Our dedication to the process means we exhaust every technique, material and finish to guarantee top-of-the-line quality and function — no matter the space in which our furniture is featured.

Kase Custom Materials

The entirety of our collection only includes up to eight materials.

Our reclaimed wood is sourced based on its health, strength, beauty and environmental responsibility.

The steel we select for our pieces is powder-coated to withstand the natural oxidation process, and all screws, nuts and bolts include a rust-resistant coating for lifetime longevity.

Kase Custom Finish Colors

All of our furniture is available in three colors, with options that either enhance raw wood tones or penetrate deeply into the wood's pores to enliven the rich depth of grain.

To ensure the protection and longevity of each piece, we hand-brush a hard-drying clear sealant to safeguard your furniture investment.

Frequently Asked Questions

By definition, reclaimed wood is any wood salvaged from old buildings, furniture, or other sources that are no longer serving their purpose.

Each piece of repurposed wood holds a legacy of something old becoming new again, and this storied character offers warmth and timeless beauty to every space it inhabits.

Since Kase Custom began in 2014, reclaimed wood has always been right for us. To many, its appeal lies solely in its sustainability. By repurposing salvaged wood, we reduce the demand for new wood, which preserves our forests.

Reclaimed wood is also a durable option for furnishings because it has had years (and sometimes decades) to dry out, making it stable. When new wood is harvested, it’s often cut before it has reached full maturity, which can lead to warping and/or cracking as it dries if not properly treated and maintained. The appeal of reclaimed wood is its aesthetic. Each piece of wood holds an air of strength and resilience, a depth of history that will always be mysterious.

At Kase Custom, we honor the uniqueness of the wood we craft with and the customers we serve. Because of your individual needs, preferences, and spaces, we offer an abundance of customizations for each of our pieces.

All of this combined makes reclaimed wood our perfect, symbiotic choice.

Our reclaimed wood is sourced from within the United States and selected for its health, strength, and inherent beauty. We carefully curate wood selections for every order, making each piece of our furniture one-of-a-kind.

Our rigorous sourcing process focuses on the health and beauty of the wood to ensure each piece of furniture starts with quality. We build our furniture with reclaimed wood sourced throughout the United States and chosen for its health, strength, and beauty.

We cannot guarantee that a certain wood species will be included or excluded from your Kase Custom piece — only that it is healthy, beautiful, and thoughtfully chosen.

Imperfections, or irregularities, tell the story of the wood’s past life.

On each product page, we mention the presence of nail holes and/or markings, wood grain, and slight color variance in hopes that you will embrace this evidence of the wood’s history. Our restoration process is careful to refine, not disguise, these elements. We start with a rigorous reclaimed wood sourcing process before the wood ever enters our shop. Then, our highly selective artisans choose each piece of wood individually when building your order.

Each piece of wood holds a variety of properties depending on the species of tree it comes from, including:

  • How and what part of the tree was felled
  • The age of the tree and the part it came from
  • How the piece of wood adapted at the sawmill
  • How the minerals in the soil impacted its growth.
  • How the wood was treated and weathered in its past lives.

At Kase Custom, we refine these irregularities for a cohesive, natural look still reflective of the wood’s history, lending legacy and visual interest to its new life as custom furniture.

Kase Custom furniture highlights reclaimed wood's character, heritage and natural beauty. Proper care for this long-wearing, sustainable material will nourish its timeless appeal for future generations.

  • Use a damp, lint-free cloth for regular cleaning
  • Add a drop of natural soap as needed
  • Promptly dry moisture

Note: Your furniture never needs detergent, bleach, ammonia or all-purpose cleaners. These products are harmful to both the finish and wood.

All reclaimed wood bears evidence of its past life in the form of texture, knots, character, and nail holes. Our process of sanding and hand-brushing honors and refines these natural elements while building a practical, durable and sustainable piece.

As you run your hands over any piece of our furniture, you will feel the smooth finish of stain and sealants and the natural texture and character of the wood.

We understand your desire to experience our reclaimed wood and finish colors firsthand in your decision-making process, and we want you to feel confident in your purchase.

As you browse, please note the unique character and variance of any one section of wood. The nature of wood offers a range of personality plank to plank.

While we cannot guarantee your Kase Custom piece will look identical to any previous piece we’ve designed, we’re confident that your overall finish color and aesthetic will match what you see online.
